No matter what level of tattoo artist you are, you will need a list of tattoo supplies kept on hand and close by. Tattoo machine that will be used is the most important. That one item will probably change the most throughout your career as you learn more and become more advanced. Also tattoo needles and tattoo inks are basic tattoo supplies you will need.

You can choose to buy each piece individually. Maybe sometimes you need is one specific thing or two. But, a tattoo kit is much better as to save time and money. As for prices, that just depends on what you are wanting and the quality of the pieces within it.

In a standardized tattoo kit you will most likely receive a tattoo machine, or, that’s it, a tattoo gun. It consists of three pieces such as the coil wrap, the grip, and the tips. There is also the power supply and the pedal along with attached cables to make your machine run. To keep your machine together and running, rubber bands, rubber rings, and grommets are needed.

There are several things that you still need for basic tattooing supplies that should often bought after using out from the tattoo kit. Tattoo needles, for one, may be one of those things. You can buy them individually or in large quantities. The sizes and types vary depending on your preference as an artist. Tattoo needles that you use are one of the most important items. Once again, what the artistic preference is, really determines what kind of needles that will be bought. The different setups include round, flat, and magnum. And they are not the only disposable item that you will be using. There are paper towels, surgical gloves antiseptic spray, petroleum jelly, ink cups, and a cream or gel that goes on to the tattoo when the process is over. These not only make the tattooing process safe, but just a bit more convenient when they are on hand and close by. Then, there is practice skin. When trying out a new machine, this can come in handy so you can get some practice in before working on real skin. You have as many colors of tattoo ink to choose from as you can find. From one brand to another, it is not only the color that matters, but its consistency and how it is made. Different inks are good for different skin tones and types, including covering up scars. Most tattoo inks are derived from metals, which can cause skin irritations.
