Although tattoos have served as a form of cultural expression in many civilizations since ancient times, it is only recently that they have become widely popular in American culture. Even 25 years ago, tattoos were seen as rebellious, especially for girls and women. In the past decade, however, they have become so common that many tattoo ideas for girls have become cliches.
